Getting closer to production

ERPs tend to distance themselves from the operational tracking of manufacturing processes, but are now taking on a greater role in process planning.

Subsequent data recording not only slows down the process but generates a lot of unnecessary paperwork leaving way to human error. One of the primary reasons behind introducing resource management systems on the production floor was the increasing significance of controlling, the necessity of faster, more detailed and more accurate availability of data, and the demand for communication between direct controlling and the production equipment and the resource management system. Isys-On Kft. has implemented many online production tracking systems of QAD Enterprise Applications in Hungary, including some recent examples.

Up-to-date data in the automotive industry

BPW Hungária Kft. has been using the QAD resource management solution for almost 20 years, which is being complemented this year with a new warehouse management system. Online production tracking was introduced in the heavy landing gear industry for the tracking of custom serial number production two years ago as a result of years of cooperation. Thanks to the system, the employee standing next to a given machine receives their current task, as well as all the necessary documentation from the technical drawing to the technological instructions via the touchscreen terminal.

An up-to-date report is made in real time during the production task of the work process, the produced products, the duration of downtimes and scrap generation, making up-to-date data available anywhere in the plant at any time. Real time up-to-date data makes production monitoring and immediate operative intervention possible.

Implementation ensures the optimal distribution of tasks, not only reacting flexibly to given production processes, but also to ad hoc events. Implementation created a more efficient, faster and less risky online data-generating system that the company has been satisfied with ever since.

From the land to the table

This development can be found in the food production industry specifications as well - this system must meet similar but sector-specific needs.  In order to ensure compliance with strict food production and quality assurance requirements, accurate control is indispensable for critical technological steps. Similarly, to the previously mentioned system, this one also allocates the tasks, but in an even most detailed way, it divides them into small elements due to the quality assurance specifications.

Measuring the spices to be added to the products was a critical process in the food industry implementation. During the spice measuring process, the implemented online production tracking system instructs the worker executing the task in the order each spice is to be added, which is complemented by immediate review process based on the data coming from the electronic scales connected to the system through the interface.

The full process is built on the input technological and other core data-based regime as an integral part of the resource management system. The integrated steps ensure that only the verified and compliant spice dosage can get the green light in the production process. With the help of the bar code identification process used during the measurement, all up-to-date information is available on the added base material.

An especially important element of the implementation process was that each work station was equipped with a custom control panel which only displays the data that are necessary for that work station, which enables task- and work-specific production controlling. The control points complying with the HACCP standard were also integrated into the QAD resource management solution. Thanks to such thorough control and coverage of the processes, the idea of tracking production from the land to the table has become an IT reality.
